Summary: The true story of Harriet Tubman is beautiful and inspiring. Students will learn how terribly difficult life was as a slave and how Harriet overcame incredible obstacles to lead a life of honor in helping others. The story of Harriet's life is gripping and will provide young children with important information concerning slavery. The story starts from Harriet's birth and continues until her death and includes her very difficult childhood, her young adulthood and marriage, and finally the many courageous trips she took on her Underground Railroad.

Grade level: This book is for the kindergarten through second grade level. It would make an excellent read-aloud during Black History month or any time. There are some challenging words that can be discussed. This would be a great book for good readers in first grade and for most readers in second.
